Things you may want to know before the tour
In this section you will find a set of practical answers on the most common questions related to my services and tours. They will give you a better idea about what to expect, what not to expect and what not to be worry about.
Did I forget something? Please feel free to drop me a line, I will be happy to help you at dana@praguebehindthescenes.com
Yes, many of my clients say that. You will get your bearings and learn a lot from a local person. I will also give you many tips on what to do during the next days, what to avoid, tell you what´s new in the city…
My tours are not the classic umbrella tours focusing ONLY on the main attractions and history (look right, look left, here you can buy some souvenirs…no, no). I am trying to present Prague in a slightly different way. My tours are personable and friendly.
Unfortunately not on my scheduled tours because there is not enough time for that. This is only possible on private tours. But I can recommend you interiours worth visiting and worth returning.
Prague Behind The Scenes small-group tour (4,5 hours)
This tour starts daily at 10:00 AM and must be booked ahead of time through a booking calendar.
Meeting point for this tour is in front of the Hybernia Theatre (Divadlo Hybernia in Czech) at Náměstí Republiky 3/4, Prague 1.
The tour ends at Prague Castle, which means it is not a return tour. But you don´t have to worry about your way back. I will help you with directions, public transport, book you a taxi or assist you with anything you may need after the tour.
Prague Behind The Scenes “light version” – private tour (3 hours)
This tour is designed as private and needs to be reserved via email dana@praguebehindthescenes.com. The starting time is entirely up to you since it´s a private tour.
Meeting point for this tour is in front of the Powder Tower. But pick up / drop off in your hotel is also possible (extra charge).
The tour ends at Prague Castle. After we finish many of my clients stay there longer and go to visit Castle interiors or gardens. If you don´t want to, I can take you to the nearest public transport or help you to book Uber.
Customized private tours can start whenever you wish, either from your hotel or from a public meeting point. You can choose.
This can happen. And it already happend to many of my previous clients. If you are late for the small group tour, please call me or text me as soon as possible.
With respect to my other clients I can only wait 10 extra minutes. But you can join us later. I am giving approx. 10 minutes introduction / history speech at the starting point so you can still easily find us. But please – try not be late 🙂
If you are late for a private tour, I am more flexible and I will wait for you. Just please call me or text me +420 775 198 185.
In case of any changes in your schedule causing that you can´t join your booked tour, please let me know that. I understand this can happen, such is travel life, however please be nice and write me an e-mail or give me a call as soon as possible so that i can reschedule my agenda as well.
Unfortunately during the past few months I´ve experienced several very unpleasant last minute cancellations. Since I don´t require any pre-payment or deposit, it’s very easy to do that. I have no cancellation policy so it will cost you nothing. It´s always sad but I don´t blame anybody. Maybe people just don’t realize what happens on my side….
I do guiding for living and any last minute cancellation or no show at the meeting point can cause me difficulties (no work = no income that day).
I am not a big tour agency, Prague Behind The Scenes is just me. If you cancel only a couple hours or minutes before the tour, I don’t have a chance to get new clients.
I am probably a bit naive solopreneur who doesn’t claim money beforehand And you know what? I would like to keep it like this still. Because I find this mutual confidence nice. And in most cases it works great.
But please, be fair and think also about my situation before you cancel last minute…
After we finish the tour you can pay by card, phone, wearables (Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay…) or cash. I accept euro, CZK or USD.
Prague Behind The Scenes small group tour: Municipal House, Powder Gate, Convent of St. Agnes of Bohemia, Vltava river, Rudolfinum, Charles Bridge (we will not cross it, you will see it in detail from a less known angle), Kampa Island, John Lennon Wall, Strahov Monastery, Loreta, Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral.
Prague Behind The Scenes “light version”: Municipal House, Powder Gate, Convent of St. Agnes of Bohemia, Vltava river, Rudolfinum, Charles Bridge (we will not cross it, you will see it in detail from a less known angle), Kampa Island, John Lennon Wall, Loreta, Prague Castle, St. Vitus Cathedral.
WHAT YOU WILL NOT SEE WITH ME: Old Town sq., Astronomical Clock, Klementinum, Wenceslas sq., Estates Theatre, Jewish Quarter. I deliberately avoid these areas as they are usually extremely crowded and noisy. During the day time there is no alternative way to get there without being surrounded by hundreds of people. And this doesn´t fit in the concept of my tours.
As Scandinavians like to say: “There is no bad weather, just bad clothing.“ The tours are given rain or shine. Please, dress for the elements, ensure you have good walking shoes, and have FUN!!!
For your comfortable walk it is very, very, very much recommended to have a good pair of walking shoes (not flip flops). Proper shoes are absolutely must. It is also good to have some cash with you for toilet, buying snacks… (coins are best) 🙂
I also recommend taking a little snack and bottled water with you (e.g. oatmeal bar, banana, protein drink…).
Prague Behind The Scenes small-group tour
Difficulty is medium and you should like walking 🙂 We will walk a lot but you will also see a lot! We will have a light, relaxed tempo with enough time for taking pictures. Part of the tour has some hills (10 minutes walking uphill) but you will be profoundly rewarded for your efforts. The view from the top is absolutely priceless. Just count with little bit of exercise on this tour. We will stop often and there will be one extended coffee/snack break where you can relax your body. IN GENERAL you will be walking for about 2,5h hours, the rest of the tour is for stops, talks, restroom breaks, coffee break and taking pictures.
Prague Behind The Scenes “light version” private tour
This tour is easier. Of course, it´s still a bit of excercise, however no uphill parts, no walking up the stairs. And we will also use public transport during this tour (tram). The ticket is included in the price.
“Light tour” is great option for hot summers and winters when you don´t want to spend too much time outside but still want to learn a lot about Prague.
Private tours can be perfectly customized to your needs and fitness level.
Prague Behind The Scenes (4,5h walk) and Prague Behind the Scenes “light version” (3h walk) involve some exercise and therefore are more suitable for fit adults but if you think your child will complete the tour and enjoy/understand the volume of information, young visitors are more than welcome!
Just keep in mind that we also need to be considerate to the rest of the group (if you choose the small group tour) and follow a certain time frame and tour scheme.
I don´t recommend taking baby carriages as the terrain is not very suitable for them.
I am very sorry, but due to the terrain I can´t recommend my tours to people in wheelchairs. Since I am taking my clients away from the regular routes, sometimes the big cobbles can be an issue.
Yes, on my small-group tour Prague Behind The Scenes (4,5 h walk) we will stop in a non-touristy coffee place for a light lunch and coffee. Very nice and cozy place.
If you book a customized private tour, I can plan as many coffee breaks as you wish 🙂
There will be a portable WiFi hotspot available during all of my tours. In the beginning you will be provided with a password, so you can start using it right away.
Majority of my clients are native English speakers. Travelling couples of all ages, small groups of friends or families. Open minded people deliberately avoiding run-of-the-mill-tours. People who prefer authentic local experience without rushing, people who want to learn some unknown fact and enjoy travelling without silly touristy show.
Yes, I am vaccinated by Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. First dose: June 1, 2021. Second dose: July 13, 2021, third dose December 28, 2021.
